3 cups sugar
3 cups vinegar
½ cup coarse salt
1 tsp. powdered alum
1 tsp. turmeric
1 tsp. mustard seed
1 tsp. celery seed
6 or more cucumbers
3-4 onions
Mix together brine ingredients. Take a gallon glass jar and layer with cucumbers and onions. Pour brine on top. Refrigerate and shake up daily. Pickles will have developed flavor after about 3 days. Add more cucumbers once empty.
